In Tibetan Buddhism the bardo is the intermediate, transitional state between death and rebirth — the interval between one experience ending and the next beginning.
We are living through a transitional time now as our old unjust, unequal and unsustainable way of living crumbles to make way for a new world. And in our own lives, we are always in the bardo — standing in the space between who we were and who we are becoming.
Writing the Bardo is a 6-month program combining writing, mindfulness and Yoga Nidra meditation to help you move through life's transitions with an open and courageous heart. To leave behind what no longer serves you. To arrive at what's waiting.
And to do none of it alone — because this is also a community where we hold each other through the crossing.

When the world feels unstable, writing is your anchor. This program gives you a dedicated space to process what's shifting — personally and collectively — and reconnect with what matters most, so you can move forward with clarity rather than fear.

Writing the Bardo weaves together expressive writing, mindfulness and Yoga Nidra meditation — three powerful practices that work on body, mind and spirit. Together they help you release what's ready to go and open to what's wanting to emerge.

Transition is easier in community. Writing the Bardo brings together people who are ready to face this moment honestly and with open hearts — to witness each other's stories, offer support, and walk through the threshold together.

Amanda is the founder of The Mindful Writer, the author of three novels, an award-winning publisher, and has spent many years learning to become enchanted with life no matter what's going on.
She's been teaching creative writing for 15 years, but what she's really teaching is how to pay attention. How to stay present in uncertainty. How to find the thread of meaning that runs through even the most disorienting transitions.
An accredited mindfulness mentor, meditation teacher, Yoga Nidra teacher, journal therapist, and Reiki practitioner, she practices what she's inviting you into. She has lived and written through her own bardos — the endings, the not-yet-beginnings, the tender in-between — and she brings all of that to this work.
Writing the Bardo is not separate from her life. It is her life's work — everything she's learned about presence, about story, about crossing thresholds with an open heart.

Amanda hosts these sessions guiding you through a Yoga Nidra meditation then through inspired writing prompts. We gather at at 4pm UK on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.

On the weeks where we don't gather on Zoom you receive an email from Amanda with a downloadable PDF of mindfulness teachings and mindful writing prompts to get you exploring what's unfolding.

The joy of connecting with others who are walking the same path and who can share the joys, challenges, and little moments that lead to new places. Knowing you have company on the journey.

Writing the Bardo is offered on a dana basis — a word from the Pali tradition meaning generosity, or gift.
In the dana model, you offer what you genuinely can, in the spirit of reciprocity rather than exchange.
A suggested minimum of £35 a month feels like a fair starting point, but if that's beyond your reach right now, please offer less.
And if you're in a position to give more, your generosity supports Amanda and helps make it possible for others to join who couldn't otherwise.
You can make one payment for the entire 6 months, pay monthly, or in 3 instalments. Whatever suits you best.
